T. R. R. Rajan Cricket
The 7th T. R. R. Rajan Memorial Cricket Carnival, organized on 11th October by the Rotary Club of Kandy, was won by the Rotary Club of Panduwasnuwera with RC Kurunegala as runner up. The joint team of the Rotaract Clubs of Colombo Millenium City & Mid City won the Rotaract Championship while the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa was the runner up.
The Rotary Club of Kandy Heritage took the prize for sartorial elegance (best dressed Rotary team) with the Rotaract Club of Kandy winning the same accolade in the Rotaract category. Rtn. Chathurika (Panduwasnuwera) won Best (Rotary) Batsman while Rtr. Shen (Colombo Mid City) was voted Best Batsman (Rotaract). Rtn. Ranga (Kurunegala) and Rtr. Ishki (Millenium City) were Best Bowler for Rotar y and Rotaract respectively and Rtn. Chintaka (Kandy Heritage) and Rtr. Kusal (University of Moratuwa) won Best Fielder awards for their respective categories.
The Rotary Man of the Series was Rtn. Chathurika (Panduwasnuwera) and Rtr. Shen (Colombo Mid City) won the title in the Rotaract category.
Over 650 participants including 344 Rotarians, 237 Rotactors, Rotary spouses & Annette’s from various parts of the island participated at this event. Two tournaments were played, one among the Rotaract Clubs and the other among the Rotary Clubs. Totally 20 Rotary Teams & 22 Rotaract Teams registered.
Family events were organized for Rotary spouses and children making for a day full of fun, fellowship and camaraderie. The mega fellowship event took place on at the Nittawella Grounds, Kandy under the distinguish patronage of Rotary District Governor B. D. R. Rajan and was chaired by President Ayesha Wijeyratne. The main sponsor of the event was the Sun & Asoka Group of Companies, Kundasale.
The 7th T. R. R. Rajan Memorial Cricket Tournament was held in memory of Past Rotary President & leading industrialist T. R. R. Rajan whose immense contribution to the Rotary Club of Kandy has made it one of the most prestigious Rotary clubs in the island.
